St Christopher’s Inn Canal Hostel in Paris
These backpacker hostels can be found in many cities throughout Europe, with two to be found in Paris, and this one is called the St Christopher’s Inn Paris Canal, which has dormitories with POD beds, women only rooms along with private rooms, plus free breakfast and WiFi is included in the cost.
About the St Christopher’s Inn Canal Hostel
Initially started back in the 1990s with an international bar called Belushi’s providing food, drink, happy hours, live sports action and music, the first backpacker hostel linked to this entertainment venue appeared in the UK two years later, and with its resounding success, the concept started to appear in many different cities throughout Europe including France.
The first St Christopher’s Inn Hostel in Paris was opened overlooking the Canal Saint-Martin by the Bassin de la Villette in the 19th Arrondissement of the city, which was followed by the St Christopher’s Inn Gare du Nord Hostel, close to the Gare du Nord Train Station for ease of access.
This is an award winning Paris hostel that has plenty of amenities including modern POD beds providing additional privacy within a shared dormitory room, plus a terrace overlooking the canal where you could relax with a morning coffee.
But also referred to as a party hostel due to the fact that Belushi’s is located downstairs, by staying at this hostel you get a 25 percent discount off the purchase of food and two for one drinks at Belushi’s, while meeting people from all over the world.
Services at the St Christopher’s Inn Gare du Nord Hostel
You will find that there is a 24 hour reception desk with multilingual staff at the St Christopher’s Inn Paris Canal Hostel plus a travel kiosk providing discounts on trips and excursions such as out to Versailles, along with a free walking tour of Paris.
This hostel in Paris is fully accessible to the disabled with lifts for easy access to all rooms, and for security it is key card entry with private lockers available for your valuables, plus welcome drinks are offered to guests every Monday evening at 6pm.
Free unlimited WiFi is available throughout the building, although it could be hard to get in some rooms, but there is a chill out room, a lounge area including computers with internet access along with a dedicated Skype computer, plus a terrace we mentioned earlier and a self service laundry.
A free continental style buffet breakfast is supplied each morning when you book through St Christopher’s, yet this is normally an additional charge if booked through an external site. However, you can also upgrade to a cooked breakfast for an additional charge, not forgetting the discounts on meals and drinks available at the Belushi’s restaurant, bar and club, which is also open seven days a week.
There is a book exchange at reception, in addition to there being hairdryers along with travel and power adaptors available, as are other travel essentials that you can purchase such as padlocks for the lockers if you do not have a padlock with you. In addition to this, you can rent or purchase towels, which are only supplied if you have booked a private budget room, and even get discounts on bus tickets for travel throughout Europe.
Accommodation at the St Christopher’s Inn Canal Hostel
There are female only rooms available along with shared dormitories for 4,6, 8, 10 and 12 people, which have POD style beds, and as you would expect, shared bathrooms. These POD style beds have privacy curtains, plus they are fitted with power sockets, a USB charging point and reading lights for added comfort and privacy.
You will find that the St Christopher’s Inn Canal Hostel in Paris also has private rooms available, which come with an en suite bathroom for those of you travelling together, as a family or small group who want a little more privacy, and no matter what option you choose including a POD bed, fresh clean bed linen is supplied as standard.
Larger groups at this hostel are also welcomed, plus there is even a function room available to hire that can accommodate approximately 60 people, but bear in mind when booking, the cost is per bed, in other words, per person, not per room, but does include breakfast within the cost.
However, if you are under the age of 18 and not part of a school group, then you must be accompanied by a responsible adult, as no one under age 18 can be within a shared dorm with anyone who is not part of the group, plus we would like to point out that over the New Year period a minimum of a three night stay is required.
