About Hotel de la Motte Picquet
Situated in a quaint typical Parisian style building within the 7th Arrondissement, the Hotel de la Motte Picquet is right on the corner of the Rue Cler, which is the famed pedestrian street home to shops including bakeries, fromagers for cheeses, wine cellars, artisan and specialty food shops and much more to delight you, not forgetting the many cafes and restaurants in Paris located along here and around this popular area of the city.
This 3 star hotel is also within walking distance of numerous historical monuments in Paris including the iconic Eiffel Tower and the building constructed in the 1600s upon the orders of King Louis XIV called Les Invalides, now home to museums and the Tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Having recently been renovated yet still keeping old and character items of furniture including the Louis XIV style of the reception and lounge area, there are modern touches and comforts including free WiFi, air conditioning and a lift for easy access to the rooms, although we would like to point out that unfortunately this 3 star hotel in Paris is not disabled friendly.
Facilities at the Hotel de la Motte Picquet
With a 24 hour reception, there are friendly, helpful staff who are able to speak languages including English, French, Italian and Spanish, who are happy to help you get the most out or your stay, whether it be advising you on different tourist attractions in Paris, making restaurant reservations, helping book tickets for shows and much more.
You may be pleased to know that the Hotel de la Motte Picquet offers a luggage hold service for those arriving prior to check-in time, or leaving later in the day, so that you can get the most out of your holiday in Paris, plus they can organise shuttles to the Paris airports, arrange taxis and so on, to make your stay run smoothly.
For those of you thinking about a romantic weekend in Paris or celebrating a specially occasion such as an anniversary, the Hotel de la Motte Picquet are also able to arrange items for your arrival including bouquets of flowers, chocolates, champagne, even rose petals on the bed and much more depending upon your budget and desires.
At reception, the staff are also able to provide translation services, offer fax and copying services, provide maps of Paris, along with various tourist guides you can peruse, plus there are leaflets for various different attractions, events that are happening, etc, which may give ideas that you had not previously thought about.
There is also an iron and ironing board available upon request and what they call a Grand Safe for larger valuable items even though each room comes with a personal safe.
The lounge area of Hotel de la Motte Picquet is also located by reception and here you can enjoy one of the International newspapers available to keep up to date with what is happening, enjoy a drink or hot beverage, even a glass of champagne. But as we mentioned earlier, there is also free WiFi so you can keep in touch with friends and family back home, however, if you do not have an internet enabled device, there is also a laptop you can use at reception as well.
When it comes to breakfast at the Hotel de la Motte Picquet, this is served buffet style between the hours of 7am and 11am within the small pretty breakfast room that has wood panelling, traditional styled wall lights that look like candles a comfortable sofa style seat with bright cushions, etc. Although if you prefer, upon request you can have a standard continental style breakfast served directly to your room.
Delights on offer include traditional French breads and viennoiseries or pastries including croissants, apple pie, pain au chocolat or raisin, the French food delicacy of madeleines plus accompaniments including jams and honey, etc and a toaster is also available to utilise if desired.
You could also enjoy cereals, yoghurts and fresh fruit salad, which includes seasonal ingredients such as strawberries in the summer time plus there are deli cold cuts and cheeses on offer all of which can be accompanied by your choice of hot beverage and fruit juice. Additionally, an omelette, scrambled eggs or fried eggs are available upon request for a small extra charge.
Rooms at the Hotel de la Motte Picquet
There are only 16 rooms at Hotel de la Motte Picquet, which are broken down as singles, twin or double rooms along with a junior suite and a duplex room, with both the latter being suitable for 3 people and families.
The single rooms still come with a double bed for extra comfort and are approximately 12 metres squared whereas the double or twin rooms are around 14 metres squared, yet the Junior Suite with a double bed and a sofa that turns into another single bed and the Duplex that has a large double bed upstairs and a single bed downstairs, with both being approximately 25 metres squared.
Each room comes with double glazing and air conditioning along with an ensuite that has either a bath or shower along with hairdryer and complementary toiletries. The Hotel de la Motte Picquet also equips each room with a desk, telephone, personal safe, has free WiFi, a flat screen TV with Satellite channels (two within the Junior Suite and Duplex room) plus a minibar and unusual for one of the 3 star hotels in Paris, it also has an emergency sewing kit available within your room as well.
Access to the Hotel de la Motte Picquet
Located in the 7th Arrondissement, when it comes to reaching the Hotel de la Motte Picquet via transport in Paris, you will find it located very close to the Ecole Militaire Metro station serving Metro Line 8 by heading down the road towards the Ecole Militaire Military school that faces the former drill grounds of the Champ de Mars.
Around here you could also utilise the Paris bus lines 28, 80, 82, 86 and 92, yet from here if you head in the direction of the River Seine there is a bus stop just off the Avenue de la Bourdonnais where you could utilise the bus lines 42, 69 and 86, which is located by the Champ de Mars Gardens, and all of these are within very easy walking distance.
Whereas the nearest RER train station is situated in a north, north easterly direction where you have the Invalides station, which serves the RER C train line along with being a Metro stop for metro line 8 and metro line 13.
For those of you who are interested in discovering more of Paris and seeing tourist attractions in other parts of the city that are not within walking distance of Hotel de la Motte Picquet, you could opt for one of the tours in Paris and there are several companies that provide bus tours.
To start with you have OpenTour who operate a hop on and hop off tour bus service with open top double decker buses and having three different routes you can enjoy, on the Grand Tour Blue tour route you will need stop 14, called the Tour Eiffel stop on the Quai Branly.
Then you have Big Bus Paris, which also offer a hop on and hop tour service, and the nearest stop is in the middle of the Champ de Mars gardens by the fountains, which is on the Red tour route as stop 2 on the Avenue Joseph Bouvard.
However, for something different, you could also enjoy the Batobus, which is a water bus operating a hop on and hop off service up and down the River Seine with docking stations close to many popular tourist attractions including the famous Louvre Museum, with their main dock being at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, right by some of the River Seine sightseeing boat tours including Bateaux Parisiens who also do dinner cruises.
Although, if you are thinking of getting to Chateau de Versailles for a day out, but would rather not utilise public transport in Paris to get there, you will find a company called Versailles Express who operate a package tour service as well as a shuttle service to and from the famous former royal palace, which is also located at the base of the Eiffel Tower and within walking distance of the Hotel de la Motte Picquet.
