HD photograph of Jardin du Carrousel inside Jardin des Tuileries looking south - Page 85
Originally there was not just the Palais du Louvre, a part of which you can see in this photograph, but there was also another royal palace constructed called the Palais des Tuileries, name after the kilns used by tillers in the area, yet this was set on fire during the Paris Commune and subsequently demolished as it was beyond repair.

So the area where the Tuileries Palace had stood was laid out into an additional garden called the Jardin du Carrousel and became a part of the Jardin des Tuileries, and this is view looking south towards the River Seine and to give you more of an idea, the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel and the rest of Tuileries Gardens would be to the right of this image.
