We were looking in a westerly direction at the back of a building called the Jeu de Paume, which is located on one of the western terraces of the Jardin des Tuileries, that were originally constructed by Andre Le Notre when he re-laid out the gardens in a formal French style.

But it was actually Louis Napoleon that had the Jeu de Paume constructed as an indoor tennis court on the terrace that became named the Terrasse de Jeu de Paume, although this is now one of the many museums in Paris, which can be found on the side of the Tuileries Gardens closest to the Rue de Rivoli.
