It was the politician, Jean Baptiste Colbert, who worked for King Louis XIV founding the Gobelins tapestry works, that instructed Andre Le Notre to redesign the Jardin des Tuileries, yet Colbert was also a man of culture and the arts who also set up the French Academy in Rome where people could win a prize and get paid to study there furthering their career.

Now this photo shows a statue called Venus Callipyge, which was sculpted by Francois Barois in the 1600s and was shipped from Rome, initially to Chateau de Versailles, then to Marly, before being placed in the exedra of the pond at the Tuileries Gardens called the Exedre Sud.
