It was in the 1660s that Andre Le Notre, who was the grandson of a gardener for Queen Catherine de Medici, was commissioned by King Louis XIV to redesign the Jardin des Tuileries, and one of the aspects he put in place were the terraces, so that the royal family and its court could see the gardens from a higher viewpoint.

So in this photo we were standing on the Terrasse des Feuillants, which is located right next to the Rue de Rivoli, while we were looking south westerly, past a bronze statue called Rhinoceros Attaque par un Tigre sculpted by Auguste Nicolas Cain, in the direction of the Esplanade des Feuillants and Grand Couvert areas of the Tuileries Gardens.
