While standing looking over a parterre of the Grand Carre area called the Grand Reserve Sud, we took this photo looking in a north westerly direction past one of the animal statues over a small round basin called the Vivier Sud and onwards showing one of the many symmetrical walkways within this area of the Jardin des Tuileries.

Now originally this area of the gardens would have been closest to the former Palais des Tuileries and was laid out as a Jardin a la Francaise with its formal symmetry, but when certain people were reigning, such as King Louis Philippe I and Napoleon III, this section was partitioned off from the rest of the Tuileries Gardens for their own private area.
