When the Palais des Tuileries was destroyed by fire during the Paris Commune, it was left abandoned for a few years, until it was eventually sold to a private investor and completely demolished, with much of the stone being sold as souvenirs, yet this opened up the perspective from The Louvre through to the Tuileries Gardens.

In fact, where a part of the former royal palace stood is now an elevated terrace, and this is a view looking in a north easterly direction towards a wing of the Musee du Louvre from this terrace called the Terrasse des Tuileries, which separates the original Jardin des Tuileries and the Jardin du Carrousel, that was also laid out between 1882 and 1883 after the demolition.
