This is a view looking in a southerly direction towards the Demi-lune Reserve sud, which is one of the parterres within the Grand Carre area of the Jardin des Tuileries, and past a statue called The Misery that was one of twelve positioned around the large round basin found within this area of the garden.

Incredibly the Tuileries Gardens was the first royal garden to be opened to select public back in the 1600s, and then by 1793 it was opened to the general public. However, when King Louis Philippe was reigning he had a part of the garden partitioned off for his private use, and Louis Napoleon extended this when he was Emperor, which encompassed this part of the Grand Carre area of the Tuileries you can see here.
