Standing close to the western entrance of the Tuileries Gardens in the Fer a cheval area, this is a view looking in a south easterly direction towards the octagonal basin and beyond, along the central axis called the Allee Centrale, which travels right through the gardens to the Louvre Museum.

Fer a cheval basically means horseshoe, and this was one of the aspects that Andre Le Notre put in place when he designed the Jardin des Tuileries in the 1600s, and you can just see the start of the two horseshoe shaped ramps on either side of the image by the statues, yet he also designed the long perspective with the Bassin Octogonal, which measures approximately 60 metres in diameter
