The Jardin du Carrousel was only first laid out after the Palais des Tuileries was demolished in 1882, having be destroyed by fire during the Paris Commune in 1871, and at this time the garden became a part of the Jardin des Tuileries, with statues by Aristide Maillol being added to the garden in 1964.

However, the Carrousel Garden was redesigned between the years of 1991 and 1996 under the Grand Louvre project that had been initiated prior by the French President, Francois Mitterand, and it was at this time that rows of hedges radiating out like fans were added and the statues placed between, as you can see in this photograph we took looking in a north west, west north direction.
