HD photograph of Grand Couvert statue inside Jardin des Tuileries looking south easterly - Page 361
Here you can see a close up of an historical statue depicting Julius Caesar, which backs onto the Salle verte sud-ouest, which is one of the bosquets, or groves, within the Grand Couvert area of the Jardin des Tuileries, which is the area covered with approximately 2000 trees.

So although the gardens were first laid out in 1564 for Catherine de Medici, widow of King Henri II, they were redesigned for King Louis XIV in 1664, yet it was not until 1716 during the reign of King Louis XV that the first statues were added to the Tuileries Gardens, which continued over the years, with this one being added in 1722.
