Here you can see a view from one of the historical statues of Julius Caesar within the Tuileries Gardens looking in a north easterly direction, then you have a row of trees to the left running down the Allee de Diane and one of the parterres of the Grand Carre area to the right of the image.

Now a parterre is a specific term used within a Jardin a la Francaise, and is part of a formal garden design utilising symmetry, and the areas were separated by paths or gravel, and always designed to be low to the ground, different ornaments such as statues and vases were then placed at strategic points, like this one, for the benefit of the royal family and their court to admire when promenading.
