HD photograph of Demi-lune carre de fer nord inside Jardin des Tuileries looking south westerly - Page 354
We were looking in a south westerly direction over the parterre in the Grand Carre area of the Jardin des Tuileries called the Demi-lune carre de fer nord, when we took this photograph also showing the large round basin surrounded by statues, which was placed along the axis of the Allee Centrale.

A French formal style garden will have different water features, and the idea of basins like the ones you can find within the Tuileries Gardens, were designed to be like mirrors and make the grounds seem larger and more animated, although probably the most famous are the fountains and water features at the Chateau de Versailles, yet both of these gardens were designed by the same landscape architect and gardener Andre Le Notre.
