While standing on a pathway between two of the parterres in the Grand Carre area of the Tuileries Gardens called the Grand Reserve nord and the Petit Reserve nord, this photo shows a view looking in a south westerly direction towards one of the two small ponds called the Vivier nord, just beyond the tree.

It was Andre Le Notre, who was a landscape architect and the grandson of one of the gardeners for Catherine de Medici, that redesigned the Jardin des Tuileries in the 1600s, which was based upon symmetry and order, and known as a Jardin a la Francaise, after designing the garden for the Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte he went on to design the grounds of many royal residences including Versailles, Chantilly, Fontainebleau, etc.
