During the reign of King Louis XIV a French Academy was founded in Rome, so that sculptors could win a competition or receive money from the state to further their studies in Italy and initially many produced copies of ancient statues that became known as After the Antique, or D'Apres l'Antique, and many were shipped from Italy to France to adorn the grounds of palaces including the Chateau de Versailles.

So this is a view looking from one of these statues from antiquity called Veturie, that was placed around the octagonal pond within the Jardin des Tuileries in 1722 during the reign of King Louis XV, when other statues were also added to complement the royal gardens, especially around the Bassin Octogonal, a part of which you can see in the distance.
