Although the Tuileries Garden has been in existence since the 1500s and was instigated by Catherine de Medici, it was then a hunting ground for King Henri IV before King Louis XIV commissioned Andre Le Notre to redesign the Jardin des Tuileries, which then became a place for people to promenade.

The historical layout has remained in place, just like you can see hear looking north west over the Grand Bassin with its water fountain along the central walkway, even though there have been substantial alterations over the centuries with additional features added, yet classed as a World Heritage Site, ongoing maintenance is a key factor for the continued enjoyment of the millions of tourists that visit the Jardin des Tuileries each year.
