Many of the statues that were sculpted for the grounds of royal chateaux were originally based upon themes of mythology or as allegories relating to specific subjects such as rivers of France, and this particular statue group is no exception, yet was also designed to be seen from every angle.

And this is a photo looking past the back of the statue group La Seine et la Marne in a south westerly direction towards the Fer a Cheval area of the Tuileries Gardens, which is where the main entrance gates are located, along with the ramps in a horseshoe shape leading up to the terraces.
