We took this photograph from by the western entrance of the Tuileries Gardens looking in a north, north easterly direction to the book shop, which is located underneath the terrace called the Terrasse du Jeau de Paume, yet on the opposite side there is a small shop and toilets underneath the other terrace.

You will find that many former royal gardens have terraces, and these were designed to provide a perspective looking over the grounds and beyond their domain, which is why they have been positioned around the perimeter of the Jardin des Tuileries.
