We were standing in the Fer a Cheval area of the Jardin des Tuileries looking in a south easterly direction past the octagonal pond down the main central pathway called the Allee Centrale, which takes you right through the gardens and on to the famous Louvre Museum.

And on either side of the image you can see orange trees positioned in lines within traditional green pots, or crates, and you will find that virtually every historical royal garden would have an orangery, spelt Orangerie in French, to keep these inside during winter and times of frost, then the trees are brought out into the gardens during the warmer months, although the original orangerie at the Tuileries Gardens is now a museum.
