While standing at the edge of a parterre within the Jardin des Tuileries called the Petit reserve nord, looking in a north westerly direction with the Allee des Feuillants to the right hand side that leads to the esplanade and then the Rue de Rivoli, yet in front in the distance you can just make out another pathway, which is called the Allee de Diane.

We were actually within the Grand Carre area of the Tuileries Gardens when we took this photo that shows the formal patterning of a parterre with flowerbeds that were utilised in what became referred to as a Jardin a la Francaise, however, in the distance where you can see the numerous trees, this is the start of the Grand Couvert area, which is made up of bosquets, or groves, that were always designed to be further away from the castle or palace in this style of royal garden.
