We were on a terrace within the Jardin des Tuileries called the Terrasse du Bord de l'Eau when we took this photo looking along the tree lined pathway in a north westerly direction as though you would be going towards the Musee de l'Orangerie or the Place de la Concorde.

So, to the left of the image you can see the parapet where you can get a lovely view over to the River Seine, and this part of the terrace looks over the Grand Carre area of the Tuileries Gardens, which you can just see a part of through the trees to the right of the photograph, and this was a design concept so that the royal family and their court living at the palace could admire their surroundings from an elevated position.
