While we were in the Grand Carre area of the Jardin des Tuileries we took this photo looking in a north westerly direction while we were standing next to the Demi-lune Reserve Nord within the northern section of these gardens.

And this area was laid out in the 1600s with basins to provide a mirror effect enhancing the perspective and size of the gardens, which was part of a formal Jardin a la Francaise layout, hence an open area with parterres and flowerbeds, with the trees further in the distance so as not to obscure any views from the palace, which was the former Palais des Tuileries.
