We were looking in a south, south westerly direction as though towards the River Seine, when we took this photograph while standing on the pathway in the Grand Carre area of the Jardin des Tuileries just before you would reach the Allee de Diane that divides this area with the Grand Couvert section of the garden.

And the lawn area planted with flowerbeds you can see directly in front is called the Demi-lune carre de fer nord, and further in the distance, to the right you have a statue of Julius Caesar, which is close to the Alle Centrale that takes you to the Grand Basin, being to the left of the image.
