Charles Perrault was born into a wealthy family in Paris and studied law, then worked for the government under Colbert, and it was in the 1660s that the Jardin des Tuileries was first opened to the respectable public, hence no beggars, soldiers, etc.

Yet Charles Perrault was also a prolific writer and is renowned for famous fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty and Puss in Boots, so it is rather fitting that a monument dedicated to him can be found within the Tuileries Gardens close to the childrens playground, and this is a view we took from the back looking north westerly into the Grand Couvert area where the monument is located.
