Lion statues have been used for centuries as guardians for royal palaces along with being a symbol for strength, courage and leadership, especially with royalty, and therefore many sculptors have created statues of this animal known as the king of the jungle.

So you will find that there are two lion statues on the wall by the western entrance of the Tuileries Gardens that face into the Place de la Concorde, which were sculpted by Giuseppe Franchi, with this lion statue being on the south west side closest to the River Seine, and we took this photo from the Terrasse de l'Orangerie looking over the square.
