The Jardin du Carrousel was first laid out after the Palais des Tuileries was demolished a few years after this was set on fire during the Paris Commune, and at that time it became a part of the Tuileries Gardens, yet it was completely redesigned in 1990s by Jacques Wirtz and Peter Wirtz.

Now one of the reasons was so that this area of the Jardin des Tuileries could better accommodate the statues by Maillol, which have their own specific area within the gardens, and in this photo you can see one of these bronze statues, which is called Baigneuse Se Coiffant by Aristide Maillol and can be found in the northern section of the Jardin du Carrousel.
