We were on the southern side of the Bassin Octogonal when we took this photo looking past the rows of orange trees that had been set out in their green crates within the western section of the Tuileries Gardens, and facing us in this photograph are the stairs that lead up to the terrace called the Terrasse du Bord de l'Eau.

Now this particular terrace is on the river Seine side of the garden, and there is another on the opposite side, which were one of the design features that the landscape architect Andre Le Notre put in place after he was commissioned by Jean Baptiste Colbert to redesign the Jardin des Tuileries back in 1664.
