HD photographs of Place Denfert-Rochereau in Paris
We were within the 14th Arrondissement of Paris, when we took these high definition photos showing the Place Denfert-Rochereau, which has numerous different tourist attractions located within it.

View of the large central cobbled intersection of Place Denfert-Rochereau
The Place Denfert-Rochereau is one of the largest and most important squares on the left bank side of the River Seine and as you can see from this first HD photo, there are many different intersections that meet at this point, which has an enormous statue in the centre.

Now originally this area was named the Place d'Enfer, however, as you can see from this plaque located on a sign post, it was renamed the Place Denfert-Rochereau in recognition of the Commander who defended Belfort in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War, and you can see the years of birth and death for this hero as well.
Gardens found inside Square Claude-Nicolas Ledoux
But even though you just saw a major intersection with numerous streets converging, there are actually different gardens, which are also located within Place Denfert-Rochereau, and here you can see one of these called the Square Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, that was named after the architect who built two historical buildings found nearby.

The Lion of Belfort bronze statue
Yet this HD photo shows the impressive Lion of Belfort statue at Place Denfert-Rochereau, which is actually a smaller scale replica version of the original located in Belfort that was sculpted by Bartholdi, and if you look carefully, you can see that this is a monument in recognition of the National Defense and their efforts in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-1871.

Gare Denfert-Rochereau the oldest train station in Paris
Here you can see the Gare Denfert-Rochereau that is classified as an historical building and is the oldest train station in Paris, which is still operating providing Metro and RER links, and this was designed with a circular shape to allow for a unique system enabling trains to turn around, although that system was abandoned in the latter part of the 1800s.

The Cafe Oz Australian themed bar and restaurant
Although this brightly coloured place is an Australian themed bar and restaurant, which is called Cafe Oz, and this is right next to the train station and opposite the stop for the Orly Bus, and again, this is another very popular tourist attraction at the Place Denfert-Rochereau, even though it is also popular with locals as well.

Foxgloves flowers found inside Place Denfert-Rochereau
You will find that there are numerous different varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers planted and maintained in the different gardens located within those found at the Place Denfert-Rochereau, and we took this close up photo showing the Foxgloves within one of the flowerbeds.

Picture of eastern side Barrier d'Enfer historical building
Here you can see one of two identical buildings known as the Barrier d'Enfer, and this is the eastern historical building facing the Avenue du Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy at Place Denfert-Rochereau, that was constructed between 1784 and 1787 by Claude Nicolas Ledoux, which was part of the Wall of the Farmers General to be used as a customs office for collecting taxes on goods entering Paris.

But these two buildings are also known as Les Pavillons d'Octroi de Ledoux, and in this photo you can see the tourist information board detailing some of the history of Paris relating to these, and shaped similar to a shield, you can find many of these around the city, and more than one at Place Denfert-Rochereau.
The Ludovic Trarieux monument with its statues
While you are walking around Paris you will come across numerous different monuments, and this one is a Monument to Ludovic Trarieux, who was a politician and founder of the League of Human Rights, and this is located within the Square Claude-Nicolas Ledoux at the Place Denfert-Rochereau.

Pavement sign for the Paris Catacombs
Yet this photograph shows a sign on the pavement at Place Denfert-Rochereau directing you to the entrance of the Catacombs, which is a popular tourist attraction in Paris, where you can go into a section of the old mining tunnels and discover the burial place for millions of people underneath the city.

There is yet another monument located at Place Denfert-Rochereau, and this Monument to Francois Vincent Raspail was produced by a national subscription in memory of the doctor and politician, which can be found within the Square Jacques Antoine, although the bronze statue on top was melted down during the occupation in World War II.

View through Square Abbe Migne gardens
However, here you can see another small garden located at Place Denfert-Rochereau, which is called the Square Abbe Migne, and this particular garden is located right opposite the historical train station, and is a lovely place to sit on one the park benches relaxing.

The Mayor of Paris tourist information board for Square Jacques Antoine
Now when you go to enter one of the gardens in Paris, you will normally find a tourist information board from the Mayor of Paris fixed to the railings, just like this one at Place Denfert-Rochereau detailing the history of the Square Jacques Antoine, including when it was first laid out back in 1896, along with its opening times and any regulations, such as no football.

But you will also find numerous children's playgrounds dotted around the city which are enjoyed by locals as well as families on holiday, and this playground including sand pits is located in the Square Georges Lamarque, which is another park and garden area located at the Place Denfert-Rochereau.

OrlyBus airport bus stop inside Place Denfert-Rochereau
The Place Denfert-Rochereau is a major point in the city for obtaining connections to and from Orly Airport, and here you can see the bus stop for the OrlyBus located in the 14th Arrondissement just outside the train station that provides RER and Metro line links enabling onward travel to other areas of Paris when you have just arrived in the city this way.

Monceau Fleurs is a chain of florists with shops in many different areas of the city, and as you can see from this picture, they have many beautiful bouquets ready to purchase for things such as a romantic gesture, yet they also specialise in wedding bouquets and much more for special occasions, and this particular florist is located on the Avenue Denfert-Rochereau.

Whereas this HD photo shows another monument, which is dedicated to Nicolas Toussaint Charlet, and although the bronze figures that were cast for this were melted down during World War II, the remainder can still be found in its original location within the Square Abbe Migne at Place Denfert-Rochereau.

Signs for Avenue de Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy and Place Denfert-Rochereau
And in this photograph you can see two different name plaques attached to the side of a building, and originally the entire area was named Place Denfert-Rochereau, yet one of the streets was renamed Avenue de Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy in memory of this gentleman who was involved with the FFI or French Resistance and the Liberation of Paris.
