This first HD photo shows an impressive sculpture that depicts Bellone, which is spelt Bellona in English, and she is the ancient Roman Goddess of War in mythology, normally portrayed with a helmet, breast plate, spear and shield, just as in this depiction that was sculpted back in the mid 1500s.
So here you can see a close up showing a part of the Bellona sculpture that was produced by Jean Goujon who is thought to have been born in Normandy in around 1510, and arriving in Paris he worked with the architect Pierre Lescot on the Fountain of the Innocents prior to working on the ornate decorations for the new wing of the Palais du Louvre.
So here you can see the entire top middle section of the Aile Lescot with the additional historical sculptures that were all produced by Jean Goujon, and as you have probably realised this wing of The Louvre was named after its architect, which was constructed in a French Renaissance style with its classical style of art works.
Yet to see the Aile Lescot you would need to be in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum called the Cour Carree, which is actually opposite the Eglise Saint Germain l'Auxerrois, and the Bellone sculpture is positioned to the right hand side of this central aspect on the third level beneath the pediment.
