La Vendange translates in English to The Harvest, and as you can see from this first HD photo, this allegorical statue that was sculpted in stone has many different features relating to a Grape Harvest including the grapes themselves along with vine leaves, but if look carefully by the left foot of the young child, the sculptor has put his surname Devaulx on the statue.
Now The Harvest was produced by Francois Devaulx who was born in Paris in 1808 and became a pupil of Etienne Jules Ramey studying at the Ecole des Beau Arts to become a French sculptor, winning different prizes plus presenting works to the Paris salons, which meant he started to receive public commissions.
Francois Devaulx produced four different statues for the Musee du Louvre including this one of The grape Harvest and also worked on the Val de Grace church, yet Francois Devaulx is probably most recognised for the Greek Warrior equestrian statue on the Pont d'Iena, which he also won a medal for.
As you can see from this photograph, you will find this allegorical statue of La Vendange located on the balustrade by the roof line on a facade of the former Palais du Louvre called the Aile Henri II, when you are standing in the Cour Napoleon courtyard yo can see this positioned as the very first statue on the left hand side of this wing.
