This first HD photo shows an allegorical statue that was produced in stone for the former Palais du Louvre called Les Decouvertes Maritimes, which in English translates to The Maritime Discoveries, so hence why you can see the young child with a nautical globe, telescope, etc.
This statue of The Maritime Discoveries was produced by Louis Merley who was born in 1815 to a family of weapons engravers and generally following in the family footsteps becoming an engraver and medalist, yet also studied sculpture as well, which was under the direction of David d'Angers.
And although he was commissioned for different statues and sculptures on The Louvre, it is the medals that Louis Merley designed, which are most recognised, especially the engraving where he won 10,000 French Francs for the production of a new gold coin.
However, in this photograph you can see the statue of Les Decouvertes Maritimes position on the third level balustrade of the Rotonde de Beavais, and when you are looking at this wing of the Louvre Museum from the courtyard called the Cour Napoleon, you will find this positioned fifth from the left hand side, or second from the right.
