This first HD photo shows a bas relief sculpture surrounding the clock on the historical Pavillon Sully of the former Palais du Louvre called La Paix et la Guerre, which in English translates to The Peace and War and this was put in place in 1857.
Here you can see a close up photograph showing the right hand side section of this allegorical sculpture with a mythological winged female figure holding a tablet with the name Paix printed on it to depict Peace, which was sculpted by Pierre Jules Cavelier.
Born in Paris 1814, Pierre Jules Cavelier studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, winning the Prix de Rome in 1842, and as a much sought after French sculptor, he had a prolific career working on numerous different tourist attractions, with no less than twelve different orders for The Louvre alone.
Yet he was also a professor at the School of fine arts with numerous pupils from 1864 up until he passed away in 1894, plus was the vice president of the society of French artists, even though he still worked on statues and sculptures.
However, in this image you can see the entire top section of the Pavillon Sully with La Paix et la Guerre relief surrounding the clock, just below the third level balustrade.
And when you are looking at this pavilion of The Louvre from the courtyard called the Cour Napoleon, you will see that this is the central wing to the east of the courtyard that faces towards the I M Pei pyramid.
