This first HD photo shows a pediment sculpture called Paix ou Abondance, sometimes referred to as Paix et Abondance, and this was designed as an allegory with a winged female figure depicting Peace and Abundance that was produced back in the 1500s when the Aile Lescot was being constructed for the Palais du Louvre.
And when you are in the courtyard of The Louvre called the Cour Carree, you will see that this is the very first pediment on the left hand side of this particular historical wing.
You will find that the Peace and Abundance bas relief was sculpted by Jean Goujon who is thought to have been born in Normandy around 1510, although exact details are unknown, yet his first recorded works were for a church and the cathedral at Rouen, before he went to Paris.
Jean Goujon worked on different projects with the architect Pierre Lescot including the Eglise de Saint Germain l'Auxerrois and the incredible Fontaine des Innocents prior to working on the Louvre Museum between the years 1556 to 1562.
But due to his religious beliefs being a Protestant known then as a Huguenot, Jean Goujon went to Italy to avoid the Wars of Religion, and the last known records of him were in Bologna in 1563 and the start of 1564.
