This first HD photo shows a statue called L'Empire, which was designed as an allegory with a young mythical winged child to depict The Empire, and made of stone after the initial plaster model had been approved, this was placed on the former Palais du Louvre during the extensive renovation works that were taking place in the 1850s.
You will find that The Empire statue was produced by Hubert Lavigne who was born in the Lorraine region of France in 1818, but studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under Claude Ramey and Auguste Dumont to become a French sculptor, engraver and writer, spending much of his time collecting data regarding French artists who passed away during his lifetime, which was subsequently published.
Yet this photograph shows the allegorical statue of L'Empire positioned on the third level balustrade by the roof line on the Aile Henri II, and when you are in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum called the Cour Napoleon, you will see that this is the third statue from the left hand side of the western facade.
