This first HD photo shows a statue called L'Astronomie, which is classed as an allegorical statue depicting Astronomy, so hence why this has been sculpted in stone with the young child holding onto a globe and instrument with his right hand raised and looking up into the sky.
Now this was produced for the former Palais du Louvre by Louis Auvray who was born in Valenciennes in 1810 and studying under David d'Angers he became a French sculptor, but also an art critic contributing to many journals.
Louis Auvray exhibited works at many different Salons and was best known for his busts and portrait statues, some of which are now at the Chateau de Versailles with others being at The Louvre Museum, along with this allegory on the facade of the Aile Colbert.
So when you are in the courtyard of The Louvre called the Cour Napoleon, you will be able to see this statue on the third level balustrade of the southern facade of Aile Colbert, and this was placed by the roof line of this wing as the third statue from the left hand side.
