This first HD photo shows a statue called La Nord, which in English translates to The North, and this was produced in stone and put in place on the Aile Colbert back in 1857 on the former Palais du Louvre.
Now here is a close up showing the North statue that was produced by Amedee Doublemard who was born in 1826 and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts to become a French sculptor, gaining a joint first place for the Prix de Rome and receiving many awards and medals throughout his career.
Upon his return from Italy, Amedee Doublemard received numerous different commissions for statues, sculptures and monuments, along with busts of rich and famous people, some of which are at the Chateau de Versailles and other are on funerary monuments within the Pere Lechaise cemetary.
Yet this image shows La Nord statue positioned on the top level balustrade by the roof line of the Aile Colbert, and when you are looking at this south facade of the Louvre Museum from the courtyard called the Cour Napoleon, this is positioned sixth from the left hand side.
