This first HD photo shows the statue called La Douceur, which when translated to English can mean Sweetness or Gentleness, and as you can see this female figure is depicted with a lamb as though she is kind, sweet and gentle.
Now this statue of La Douceur was produced in marble by Jean Esprit Marcellin who was born in Gap in 1821 and initially went to work and study under Francois Rude at his studio before entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts, first presenting works at the 1845 Salon for French artists.
Jean Esprit Marcellin received several different orders for statue to adorn the Palais du Louvre, along with others for churches and the Hotel de Ville in Paris, plus he worked on sculptures and statues for the Chateau de Fontainebleau and the building of the Prefecture in Marseilles called the Bouches du Rhone.
Yet this image shows the statue of Gentleness or Sweetness located within a niche on the ground level of the Aile Lemercier, and when you are looking at the facade from the courtyard of The Louvre called the Cour Carree, you will see that this marble statue is positioned fourth from the left hand side on this wing.
