This first HD photo shows a statue called Gloire, which is an allegorical statue that in English translates to Glory, and as you can tell, the female figure is holding up laurel wreaths, which was an ancient Greek tradition for a victor being crowned with one of these wreaths, referred to as a laurel crown.
Now the statue of Glory was produced in marble for the former Palais du Louvre by Victor Edmond Leharivel-Durocher who was born in 1816 and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts studying under Augustin Dumont and Jules Ramey to become a French sculptor.
Victor Edmond Leharivel-Durocher produced numerous statues and other religious works for many different churches, both in Paris and throughout France, plus the Gloire statue and two reliefs for the Louvre Museum, also being awarded the Legion of Honour in 1870, eight years before he passed away back in his home town of Chanu in the Normandy region.
Yet this photograph shows the Gloire statue positioned within a niche on the Aile Sud facade of the Louvre Museum, and when looking at this wing from the Cour Carree courtyard, this is located second from the right hand side on the ground floor level.
