This first HD photo shows a statue called Reconnaissance, which in English translates to Recognition, however, some places state that this statue is called Renaissance, and this was sculpted in marble for the South Wing of the former Palais du Louvre.
Now you can also see the lady holding a laurel wreath, so with this in mind, we feel that it is more likely to be called Reconnaissance, due to the fact that this was a symbol given in Recognition of victories such as in the ancient Roman Olympic games.
You will that this marble statue was sculpted by Ferdinand Taluet who was born 1821 and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts under David d'Angers to become a French sculptor presenting his first works at the 1848 Salon.
Ferdinand Taluet received many commissions for statues on different churches and cathedrals including the Notre Dame de Paris, but you can also find his works on tourist attractions around the city of Paris such as the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Hotel de Ville and of course this one for The Louvre.
He was also commissioned for different busts, reliefs and embellishments for buildings throughout France, yet you will find that many works by Ferdinand Taluet are now located within the Museum of Fine Arts in his home town of Angers.
However, this photograph shows the location of the Reconnaissance statue, located within a niche on the first level of the Aile Sud, and when you are looking at this facade from the courtyard of the Louvre Museum called the Cour Carree, you will see that the marble statue is positioned fourth from the left hand side.
