This first HD photo shows the statue of Aphrodite, who was the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Sexuality in Greek mythology, and in Roman mythology her equivalent would be Venus, with one popular story from both being that she derived from sea foam.
Now this Aphrodite statue was produced in marble by Georges Clere who was born in Nancy in 1819 and initially studied medicine, before turning to sculpture and he entered the studio of Francois Rude in Paris to train further after having studied at the Fine Arts School in Dijon.
Georges Clere received numerous commissions from the French state and the City of Paris including several for The Louvre between the 1850s and 1860s that can be found on different facades of the former Palais du Louvre.
But this photograph shows the location of the Aphrodite statue positioned within a niche on the Aile Sud facade of the Louvre Museum, and third from the left hand side on the lower level, you would need to be in the courtyard called the Cour Carree in order to see this marble statue.
