This first HD photo shows the statue of Apollon, which in English translates to Apollo, and Apollo is known as the God of Music in Greek and Roman mythology, yet Apollo is also referred to as one of the most important Olympian deities in classical Greek and Roman religion.
Because Apollo is referred to as the God of Music, he had been depicted here holding a lyre, which is a very traditional style of musical instrument, and this was sculpted in marble by Charles-Francois Leboef, who was known as Nanteuil.
Now Nanteuil was born in Paris in 1792 and studying at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, he won the Prix de Rome enabling him to further his studies and career at the Villa Medici, and upon his return, Nanteuil received numerous public commissions for statues and busts including Apollon for the former Palais du Louvre.
Yet many of the works by Nanteuil can be found on or at famous tourist attractions such as the Gare du Nord, The Pantheon, Jardin des Tuileries, Chateau de Versailles, Madeleine Church and many others including others for The Louvre.
Yet here you can see the location of the Apollon statue positioned within in a niche on the Aile Est, which is the East Wing of the Musee du Louvre that can be seen from the courtyard called the Cour Carree.
And you will find this marble statue positioned on the first level next to one of the doors and it is fifth from the right hand side, yet if counting from the left, it would be the eighth niche, but only the seventh statue, as there is one statue missing.
