This first HD photo shows a sculpture surrounding a porthole style window on the Pavillon Mollien of the Louvre Museum, which is called L’Astronomie et la Geometrie and produced by Jean Esprit Marcellin, in English this translates to Astronomy and Geometry.
Now Jean Esprit Marcellin was born in Gap in 1821 and with financial help from the local council and mayor he managed to go to Paris and study under Francois Rude to become a French sculptor and with his talent he started to receive numerous commissions.
In fact he received several different commissions for the former Palais du Louvre, many of which were statues, plus Jean Esprit Marcellin produced statues for the Hotel de Ville along with others that can be found at tourist attractions in Paris, in his home town and in Marseille.
So in this image you can see L’Astronomie et la Geometrie located to the right hand side of the arched entrance way on the first level of the Pavillon Mollien, and you can see this facade of The Louvre, which faces west, as you are standing in the courtyards called the Cour du Carrousel.
