This first HD photo shows a statue within a niche on the Aile Nord wing of the former Palais du Louvre, which was sculpted in marble and named Aurore, this translates in English to Dawn, and was put in place in 1883.
Now this next close up image of the Dawn statue shows the detailing, although unfortunately, as you can tell, one of the female figures hands is missing, but this was produced by Nicolas Victor Vilain, who was born in Paris in 1818.
Nicolas Victor Vilain entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts and studied under James Pradier, winning the Prix de Rome in 1938, and sent several works back to Paris for exhibiting at the Salons whilst furthering his studies at the Villa Medici in Rome, and upon his return, started to receive many public commissions.
In fact, Nicolas Victor Vilain received no less than nine different orders for the Louvre Museum including this statue of Aurore, however, other works by this French sculptor can be found at many tourist attractions around Paris such as several for different churches like the Eglise Saint Roch and the Tour Saint Jacques, along with others for the Pont des Invalides, within the Jardin du Luxembourg, at the Chateau de Versailles, etc.
However, here you can see the location of the Dawn statue located in a niche on the wing of The Louvre called the Aile Nord, and you would need to be standing in the Cour Carree to see this, which has been positioned as the very first statue from the left hand side on the first level of this facade.
