In this first HD photo you can see the entire pediment sculpture called L'Architecture, which is an allegory that depicts a central female figure holding up an architectural drawing, accompanied by two small children with additional features such as ornate columns and tools that depict Architecture.
Yet here you can see a close up photograph showing the detailing within this allegorical sculpture of Architecture, which was produced by Louis Ernest Barrias, who was born in 1841 to a family of artists and initially studied to become a painter before changing his focus to sculpture.
Initially studying under Pierre Jules Cavelier before entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts under Francois Jouffroy, he ended up winning the Prix de Rome to further his studies at the Villa Medici, sending back many works from Italy prior to his return to Paris, France.
From this point on Louis Ernest Barrias received numerous public commissions for statues, sculptures and monuments at tourist attractions around Paris including this and others at the Louvre Museum, plus many that can be found throughout France including within different museums.
He had a prolific and very productive career being in high demand for many different works and along the way Louis Ernest Barrias received numerous medals, awards and honours, yet even became a professor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, which is a position he held until he passed away in 1905.
However, in this image you can see that L'Architecture is located by the third level balustrade and roof line of the Aile de Marsan south facade above a window and two other sculpture on the ornate facade of The Louvre. So, as you are standing in the courtyard called the Cour du Carrousel, you will find this is the pediment positioned third from the left hand side.
