This first HD photo shows the statue of Bethsabee located within a niche on the Aile Nord wing of the former Palais du Louvre, and in English this translates to Bathsheba, who was a person mentioned in the bible.
In the Hebrew bible King David saw her taking a bath and wanted Bathsheba to be his wife, which eventually happened, whereas in Christianity, she is indirectly mentioned as an ancestor of Jesus.
So here you can see a close up photo showing some of the detailing that went into producing this statue of Bethsabee, which was by Eugene Andre Oudine, who was born in Paris in 1810, studying to become an engraver and sculptor.
Eugene Andre Oudine produced numerous different medals and coins for the French Mint, yet he was also just as good at sculptures, receiving many different orders for statues to adorn churches and other tourist attractions in Paris including no less than five for the Louvre Museum, including this one of Bathsheba.
However, this image shows the location of the marble statue positioned in a niche on the first level of the Aile Nord, and when you are looking at this southern facade from the courtyard of The Louvre called the Cour Carree, you will find it positioned fifth from the left hand side.
