This first HD photo shows a pediment, which was named La Force, and as you can see the winged female figure is holding a club and is sitting on a lion, and this animal has been a symbol of force, strength, authority, courage, etc for centuries, so hence the allegorical sculpture was designed to depict Strength.
Now this next image shows a close up of The Strength pediment with the main central figure and a young child next to her holding a snake, or serpent, which was sculpted by Gabriel Jules Thomas, who was born in Paris in 1824 and followed in his fathers footsteps to become a French sculptor.
Having been a student of Etienne Jules Ramey and Augustin Dumont, he was the winner of the Prix de Rome competition in 1848, which then led to numerous different public commissions for statues and sculptures with several for The Louvre along with others for different churches and tourist attractions like the Palais Garnier, throughout a very long a prolific career.
However, here you can see a section of the top part of the Aile de Flore, which is a wing that faces into the courtyard of the Louvre Museum called the Cour du Carrousel, and La Force pediment can be seen seventh from the left hand side as you are looking at the north facade.
