Located on the facade of the Aile de Flore, when you are standing in the courtyard of The Louvre called the Cour du Carrousel, you will be able to see statue groups below the pediment sculptures and above bas reliefs.
And this particular statue group called Diane, is located on the third level to the left hand side of the first window, and was put in place in the 1860s when the former Palais du Louvre was being renovated with hundreds of different embellishments being added to make the palace look even more sumptuous.
So here you can see a close up showing part of the statue group called Diane, which was sculpted by Emmanuel Fremiet who was born in Paris in 1824 and having starting exhibiting works at the Paris Salons, he became well recognised, including by Napoleon III, which led to numerous commissions.
Emmanuel Fremiet became a renowned animalier, which basically means a sculptor of animals and his specialty was wild animals, although he produced many different types of statues, with his most famous one being the Joan of Arc equestrian statue located close to the Louvre Museum, but another virtually the same that he produced, is in Philadelphia, USA.
