The Pont des Arts often used to be referred to as the Bridge of Love, where people placed padlocks on its railings, however these have since been removed to ensure the safety and structure of this footbridge, and in the transitional stage, a temporary art exhibition had been placed on it.
So in this HD photo you can see one of the contemporary art sculptures called Arbre IV mirror, which in English translates to Tree 4, and this is part of the temporary installation called La Passerelle Enchantee, which in English means The Enchanted Footbridge.
Arbre IV mirror was actually sculpted by the artist Daniel Hourde using polished stainless steel to provide a mirror effect finish, which as you can tell, picks up on the different surroundings such as the clouds, and this is one of ten entirely different trees within The Enchanted Footbridge exhibition.
Daniel Hourde, who was born in 1947 and studied at the School of Fine Arts, wanted to relate back to when the Pont des Arts was first constructed, as the designers had the idea of the bridge being a suspended garden, so hence why he incorporated contemporary styled trees.
Yet as you can see in this photograph looking towards the Institut de France, there are many different statues and sculptures, all produced by the same artist for this temporary installation, which are positioned on temporary platforms running the length of the Pont des Arts.
Here you can see the opposite side of Tree 4 as we were looking over the River Seine, and with the light it seems to vanish into the clouds, which provides a really unusual effect, hence the name of the exhibition La Passerelle Enchantee.
And The Enchanted Footbridge contemporary art exhibition is based upon a theme of myth and magic, but Daniel Hourde also wanted to utilise different metals within his sculptures as a reminder of what the bridge was with the lovelocks, but what it has become as a place of culture, art, enchantment and romance.
