As part of a temporary exhibition on the Pont des Arts called La Passerelle Enchantee, which in English translates to The Enchanted Footbridge, this first HD photo shows a contemporary art sculpture called Mickey, which was sculpted in bronze back in 1991.
This unusual sculpture designed to be part man and part mouse was produced by Daniel Hourde, and this temporary installation was run alongside a solo exhibition by this artist at the Galerie Agnes Monplaisir in Paris with the idea of transitioning from the lovelock bridge to one of arts and passion.
In fact, many years ago, the Pont des Arts used to host temporary exhibitions, but then it became referred to as the Bridge of Love, with people starting to add padlocks or lovelocks to the railings, yet through the weight of these it caused major structural problems, so the City of Paris decided to remove these, and preserve its identity as a romantic promenade footbridge and one of arts in keeping with its name.
One of the ideas that Daniel Hourde had, was to incorporate metals into the contemporary sculptures to carry through the theme of the transition from padlocks and iron railings to what you can see now with the plexiglass panels, and Mickey is just one of several statues and sculptures within The Enchanted Footbridge exhibition.
Hence, this is one of the reasons that the name La Passerelle Enchantee was chosen for the temporary installation, which brings together themes of myth and magic, that Daniel Hourde and the City of Paris hope will still inspire people from all over the world to visit this footbridge as one for passion, art and culture.
Yet this close up photo shows the tourist information plaque that had been positioned on one of the temporary decking's put in place for the contemporary art installation, and as you can see, there are three different statues and sculptures listed on this, all produced by Daniel Hourde, with the statue of Mickey being in the centre.
